About Me

I write sci-fi, YA drama, and personal memoirs about media.

Writing and the power of storytelling captured my imagination from a young age. We moved a lot when I was a kid: three times back-and-forth from Washington state to Colorado. Through it all, there was my Mom, Dad, two sisters, and piles of movies, books, and video games: the constants in an ever-shifting-life.

My childhood had two poles: lively and boisterous family gatherings in Seattle packed with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and my hometown of Highlands Ranch, CO. I am from winding suburban cul-de-sacs, rolling prairie hills, and stunning views of the Rocky Mountains from horizon to horizon.

The most important decision of my life was to sign up for seventh grade Theatre class. Everything rolled forth from there. I started acting in plays and making movies with friends. At Mountain Vista High School, I thrived, discovering an identity as a certified Theatre Kid (mostly cast as old men, eccentrics, or eccentric old men) and director of short films for our VistaVision weekly TV broadcast.

In college, I dove even further into film and theatre, with several years in the Film Studies program at the University of Southern California and the University of Colorado at Boulder Theatre Department, before earning an MFA in Screenwriting from Chapman University.

Ever since, through duplicating the pattern of my childhood with many more moves between Denver, Los Angeles, and Seattle, I’ve kept writing: plays, screenplays, novels, memoirs, poetry. I hope to share some of that writing with you here.

This is … Continue reading V: What a 1983 Miniseries Can Teach Us About Fighting Fascism – Part One

Video Game Memories #2 – Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

The game that introduced me to my favorite hero, Indiana Jones, and can instantly transport me back to every place I’ve ever lived. Life is change. But when you’ve moved as much … Continue reading Video Game Memories #2 – Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
